What happens if you put self tanning lotion on sunburn?

So I went to a waterpark and kept re-applying sunscreen, but I got really burnt anyways. I'm having a huge family gathering tomorrow, and I don't want to look like a lobster! I have some self tanning lotion, you know, the lotion where you put it on and it makes you tan? Well what would it work if I put it on my sunburn to make me look tan instead of red? Thanks!
